How to stay motivated?

November this year marks my 10 years as an engineer in construction field. I have been working in construction line since 1999 and involved in construction of various high rise residential and commercial building project in Malaysia and UAE as a planning engineer with Main Contractor company; 5 months with Project Management group.

In that time, I have learned a lot about working with few project directors, project managers, managers, staffs, labors, clients, consultants, subcontractors etc. I likes my work because I enjoy the ability to follow my interests, I like a few people I work, I like meeting new people, I like learn something new, playing with Primavera P6 & P3.1 etc. To the shortcut, I enjoy working BUT ...

After 11 weeks with my current company, I feels my work is no longer enjoyable, my work has become stagnant, no challenging assignments where I can apply my skills and experience more effectively also the company did not allow me to grow professionally and do not offer me an advancement opportunity.

How to stay motivated doing something you do not like it?

What I'm Supposed To Do TODAY?

I am supposed to be in my office at this time but I am not. Is there something else I am supposed to do today? Mmmm ....

This morning I woke up with a plain sense of how much I really dislike having to go to work. I woke up at my usual 5.30am, left the house at 6.45am and heading to the office. After passing the airport tunnel, for some reason I have a nagging feeling that there is something I am supposed to do today, NOT my job but something else. I changed the route and heading to my favourite spot. I have decided to avoid everything related to the work today. I just wanted to see anything in the internet until noon, catch Alif in his school and outing with the boys.

I will meet my boss tomorrow. He might be missing me. Hahaha...

It's not 'me' anymore ...

Sometimes loyalty to a company can be confused with loyalty to person like a director, manager etc. I once worked for a company for 8 years where I was praised for being very loyal. I never put myself in the open but chose to committed to the company. Great experience teaching me to change.

Mmm...I am new and I know nobody in this office. I am still a loyal person but it is to my own vision and not somebody else. Today, I left office at 12pm after an argument.

REASON is I chose NOT to be a loyal staff.

Melayan karenah wakil tuan perunding ni. Macam tak faham atau buat-buat tak faham, tak pasti pula. Yang gue tahu, dia orang ni macam sengaja nak cari salah kami, style kerja point finger to others, bukan cari solution. Meeting berjam-jam bukan cari penyelesaian tapi terjerit2 dan ada masa maki orang sana sini macam baru kena tinggal bini. DAN lagi, pernah dalam satu meeting, yang seorang ini marah sebab kami hantar surat. Aik??? Sudah tu, takkan kita orang nak menadah je? Bila kerja tak jalan OR kerja jalan sekalipun, ada problem mulalah nak buat helah tak performed la, tak itu la tak ini la. Oh really, I am not impressed dengan cara kerja mereka. No wonder masa kat projek lama dulu dengan company lama, masuk2 kerja je gue dengar khabar angin yang pihak Client tak nak sambung contract dia orang, begini rupa cara kerjanya. Nasib baik belum sempat kena buang, projek sana di slow down kan. Kalau tidak, tunggu dan lihat aje la.

Argue dalam telefon hari tu gue tanya wakil tuan perunding ni soalan innocent, “Did we sign the new LOA?” Dia jawab, “I don’t know”. Huwaaaa……Takkan tak nak ambil tahu sebelum minta bukan2 dari gue? Jawapannya belum la cik abang oiii!!! Belum sign NEW LOA, di ulang secara penuh, NEW LOA for same project, kenapa sibuk nak minta Program baru? Hello, gue ada 14 calendar days from signed LOA untuk hantar program Hokkay!

Ni babak SATU.

Cakap dalam telefon juga ni.

“When you want to submit your realistic program as you mentioned in your previous letter?”

“After we receive all information we required”.

“When?”

“What do you mean with ‘when’?”

“When you will receive the information?”

“After you reply my letter”. HAHAHAHA.


Seriously, gue belum pernah kerja dengan mana2 wakil Tuan Perunding yang blur OR pura-pura blur tahap cipan macam ni.

Demam Farm Town

Sejak spring break ni, sengaja bagi Alif bersukaria tidur lewat. Biasa school day balik kerja gue memang biasakan suruh dia buat homework or reading dan tidur tepat jam 9:30pm. Masa cuti ni, happy dia sepanjang hari main, tengok CD Ice Age entah yang ke berapa kali dan melukis dengan Mirza.

Hari ini, balik dari kerja masa gue tukar baju, Alif masuk bilik dan kata, "Mummy, after this go solat then we play Farm Town OK".. Ohhhh! Rupanya dia perasan mummy main game kat internet hampir setiap malam.

Ni dia Farm Town gue as of 01.04.09 jam 2025 Dubai time.

Dan jealous betul gue tengok Farm kawan ni...

Teringat suatu masa dahulu, gue demam main game Age of Empire... sampai tak tidur malam di buatnya. Hahaha...
